The gift of self care is one that extends beyond yourself. Taking care of yourself creates capacity to care for others too. Remember the oxygen mask analogy – “put on your own mask first before attending to others”. And when you attend to your own well-being, you are better able to focus on what matters most to you and to those around you.
This doesn’t require major changes or effort as even small or incremental steps can make a difference.
One opportunity for self care is to simply notice your breathing. Breath awareness brings you into the present. Just two minutes of deep breathing can be calming, release tension and improve your ability to focus.
Another simple strategy for self care is to incorporate short breaks into periods of intense concentration. This approach can improve your effectiveness, as demonstrated with the Pomodoro Technique which you can learn more about it in the 5:46 minute video at this link:
